In More Detail…
To begin with, Kitty will tell you and the students all about her life, starting with the treacherous journey from Ireland to Liverpool. Follow Kitty as she looks after her mother, heads to a cotton mill, opens a school and then finally opens Liverpool’s first washhouse. One of Kitty’s biggest achievements was the help and knowledge she gave to others on how to keep good hygiene. She taught good washing practices, and showed people how to use natural chemicals to clean their clothes.
In this workshop we bring in our special soap-making kit. The students will all get a chance to prepare and make their own bar of soap. They will also design posters and make the packaging for the product to take home with them at the end of the session. If there’s time, we’ll also get your students to look at life as a Victorian child. They will come up with some adverts to encourage the viewers to use good washing habits.
Why not book our workshop and let us take you deep into the world of Kitty Wilkinson – the Saint of the Slums!
